Geraldine is a professional music teacher and lecturer, with over 30 year experience. She has taught music both academically and practically in many contexts ranging from schools, universities to festivals and summer schools. She is principal piano tutor and keyboard skills coordinator and teacher at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. She focuses on both accompaniment and the playing of traditional Irish music. While she has taught this from a basic level, in the context of short festivals she prefers to work with improvers or advanced piano players. In 1996 she published the first publication for traditional Irish piano ’Seinn an Piano’. She also published a best selling tutor for tin whistle in 1983. Her most recent book ‘Rogha Geraldine Cotter’ is a development of both those tutors. As a lecturer she has presented at the Irish World academy of Music, University of Limerick, University College Dublin at the Irish Conference of the International Council for Traditional Music, and at Liverpool John Moore’s University at the Conference of the British Forum for Ethnomusicology.
